I am delighted to support the campaign to equalise the national minimum wage so that everyone over 18 is paid a fair wage.
At the moment, those between 18 and 20 can be paid nearly £2 a hour less than those over 25.
This causes real hardship for young workers and their families.
The law as it stands undermines young workers and companies that try and offer a fair wage to everybody only to be undercut by rivals.
I was disappointed that my friend Holly Lynch MP’s bill on this issue was not allowed a proper debate or vote but I will continue to support efforts to give 18-24 year olds a fair wage.
